"I have always been attracted to optical illusions or anything that could produce a trick of the eye.  One of the interesting things about the Moiré effect is that anyone can operate and manipulate it for themselves.  It provides a movable hands-on interactive relationship between the viewer and the image and it's fun and easy to do.  In this case I started with two transparencies of suitable geometric pattern.  I placed them in one of those hard plastic sheet holders horizontally with the ends sticking out on each side, added several pieces of different colored cellophane, clinched the bottom for pressure, put it front of a light source and there you have it.  These are recordings of me operating this little contraption."
